When to see a private gynecologist
Most women have routine follow-up with a gynecologist at their health fund (kupat holim). A private subspecialist makes sense when a question calls for focused experience, when the public waiting time is too long for the urgency, or when you want a second opinion before a decision. Situations where a consultation is worthwhile:
- High-risk pregnancy: gestational diabetes, high blood pressure or preeclampsia, a multiple pregnancy, pregnancy after age 40, or an underlying maternal condition.
- An early anatomy scan (weeks 14-16) or a late anatomy scan (weeks 22-24) with an ultrasound specialist, and fetal echocardiography when indicated.
- A finding on a scan or genetic test that requires a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist.
- Chronic pelvic pain, severe period pain or pain during intercourse that raises suspicion of endometriosis.
- Difficulty conceiving after a year of trying (six months over age 35), or the need for support through IVF.
- Irregular bleeding, bleeding after menopause, or an ovarian or uterine finding on imaging.
- An abnormal Pap smear or HPV result, or the need for a colposcopy.
- Urinary leakage, pelvic organ prolapse or pelvic floor problems after childbirth.
- Menopause symptoms: hot flashes, sleep disturbance, dryness, mood changes, and questions about hormone therapy.
- A family history of breast or ovarian cancer that calls for hereditary risk assessment.
Heavy bleeding in pregnancy, sharp abdominal pain or reduced fetal movement require going straight to the women's emergency room, not a scheduled consultation.
What the consultation at EliteMed includes
The consultation is with the senior physician in the relevant subspecialty, not a general gynecologist. The doctor reviews your history and previous test and scan results, performs an examination and a gynecological or obstetric ultrasound when needed, and sets out a plan: follow-up, further tests, medication, referral for surgery, or support through a fertility process. Anatomy scans and fetal echocardiography are performed at the center on high-resolution ultrasound equipment.

Comprehensive maternal-fetal medicine follow-up for pregnancies with gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, multiple fetuses, a complex medical background or a previous obstetric history, led by the head of an MFM unit.
Prenatal Anatomy Scans
Early anatomy scan, late anatomy scan and nuchal translucency on high-resolution ultrasound, performed by an obstetric ultrasound specialist from Shaare Zedek, with a detailed explanation of the findings during the examination.
Endometriosis Hub, Pelvic Pain and Pelvic Floor
Diagnosis and consultation for endometriosis, adenomyosis and chronic pelvic pain, including planning of medical or surgical treatment, led by Prof. Alex Perl. Urogynecology for urinary leakage, pelvic organ prolapse and postpartum pelvic floor problems, with conservative care, pelvic floor physiotherapy and surgical solutions.
Complex Fertility (IVF), Hormonal Health and Menopause
Couples' infertility work-up, pre-treatment counselling and support through IVF programs by senior specialists, with a personalized approach and coordination with endocrinology, including hormonal evaluation for women. Menopause consultation: symptoms, hormone therapy or non-hormonal alternatives, and follow-up of bone and heart health after periods stop.
Gynecological Malignancies and Breast Imaging
Assessment of suspicious findings in the uterus, ovaries and cervix, hereditary risk assessment and oncological surgical planning by senior gynecologic oncologists from Shaare Zedek and Sheba. Breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided biopsies are coordinated with the center's imaging unit.
Fetal Echocardiography
A focused ultrasound examination of the structure and function of the fetal heart, together with the center's pediatric cardiology team, when there is a family indication or a finding on the anatomy scan.
Preparing for the visit and what happens afterwards
For an obstetric visit, bring your pregnancy follow-up booklet, scan and genetic test results and recent blood tests. For a gynecological visit, bring Pap or HPV results, previous ultrasound reports and a description of your cycle in recent months. For a fertility work-up, bring your partner's test results too. At the end of the visit you receive a written summary with the findings, recommendations and next steps: follow-up, further tests, medication, or scheduling surgery at the hospital where the doctor operates. Anatomy scan results are given at the end of the examination with a detailed explanation and, with your consent, are also sent to your regular gynecologist.

A high-risk pregnancy involves gestational diabetes, high blood pressure or preeclampsia, multiple fetuses, an underlying maternal condition, older maternal age or a complex obstetric history. Follow-up is with a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist. At EliteMed the service is led by Dr. Shira Fishman, working alongside the patient's regular gynecologist.
The early anatomy scan is done in weeks 14-16 and the late scan in weeks 22-24. Both are performed at EliteMed in Modi'in by Dr. Misgav Rottenstreich and the specialist team on high-resolution ultrasound, with the findings explained during the examination. Nuchal translucency and fetal echocardiography can also be scheduled.
Health-fund follow-up covers the routine tests in the Ministry of Health schedule. Private follow-up adds time: longer visits, the same doctor throughout, availability for questions, and fast access to an MFM specialist if a complication appears. Many women combine both: routine care at the health fund and private consultations at decision points or in a high-risk pregnancy.
When severe period pain, chronic pelvic pain, pain during intercourse or difficulty conceiving persist, see a gynecologist who specializes in endometriosis. Diagnosis combines a detailed history, examination and dedicated ultrasound, sometimes MRI. After a year of trying without a pregnancy, or after six months if the woman is over 35. Recurrent miscarriage, irregular cycles, known endometriosis or a wish to preserve fertility also justify an early consultation. The work-up covers both partners, and the center's fertility specialists also support IVF programs carried out in hospital units.
No referral is needed. Bring your pregnancy follow-up booklet, scan results, genetic and blood tests, recent Pap or HPV results, previous gynecological ultrasound reports and a list of medications. For a fertility work-up, bring your partner's test results as well, if they have been done.
The fee is given when you book, before the visit, and depends on the type of visit: consultation, anatomy scan, ultrasound or follow-up. Consultations and tests are reimbursable as private specialist consultations under most private policies and health-fund supplementary plans, subject to policy terms. The center provides an invoice and a medical summary for your claim.
