About Dr. Oren Leder | Specialist in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Advanced Endoscopy
Dr. Oren Leder is the Head of the Pediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Department at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, one of the largest pediatric endoscopy units in Israel. Dr. Leder studied medicine at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia, and specialized in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne and the Children's Hospital in Sydney. He studied pediatric endoscopy under Professor Don Cameron, one of the founders and leaders in the field in Australia, and continued his advanced training in interventional endoscopy with Professor Mike Thomson in Sheffield, England, one of the world's leading pediatric interventional endoscopists. Dr. Leder immigrated to Israel in 2012 and began working as a senior physician in pediatric gastroenterology at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Dr. Leder was the first Israeli representative to the Endoscopy Interest Group of the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pathology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), the largest society in the world in the field of pediatric gastroenterology. The Endoscopy Interest Group is an elite group of approximately twenty passionate endoscopists from across Europe and the Middle East. Dr. Leder currently serves as the Head of Research for the Endoscopy Interest Group, where he has initiated and is initiating several multicenter studies and position papers in the field of endoscopy, which provide guidelines for pediatric gastroenterologists worldwide. Dr. Leder also serves as a regular instructor in the field of endoscopy in the Endoscopy Learning Program at the annual ESPGHAN conference, where he trains both novice and advanced endoscopists. He is also an instructor at the annual Endoscopy School, an ESPGHAN learning program designed to train gastroenterologists who wish to improve their skills in endoscopy.
Dr. Leder recently joined the joint European Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and ESPGHAN team, which provides research-based guidelines on important aspects of pediatric endoscopy. In particular, he is the team leader on endoscopic dilations, and also on the group that develops guidelines on swallowed foreign bodies.
In addition to endoscopy, Dr. Leder is a respected expert in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and colitis. He is a senior physician at the Pediatric IBD Clinic in Shaare Tzedek, which is the largest service in the field in Israel, and one of the largest and most respected services in Europe and the Middle East.
Dr. Leder is also an active member of the ESPGHAN Inflammatory Bowel Disease Interest Group, and has initiated several important studies regarding innovative treatments for pediatric IBD, as well as endoscopic interventions in Crohn's disease. Among other research activities, he has initiated and contributed to numerous important local, national, and international studies in the field of inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, and pancreatitis.
