How to prepare for the visit and what happens afterwards
Bring previous hearing tests, CT or MRI reports of the sinuses or ears, neck ultrasound results, and a medication list, including nasal sprays. Endoscopy needs no special preparation. You leave with a written summary: diagnosis, treatment plan and endoscopy findings, plus where necessary a detailed referral for a sleep study, extended hearing test or imaging. When surgery is recommended, the doctor explains the alternatives, procedure and recovery, and arranges the operation at the hospital where he operates. With your consent, the summary also goes to your family doctor.

A thin, flexible tube with a camera is passed through the nose, letting the doctor see the nasal cavities, pharynx and vocal cords in high resolution. It takes a few minutes, is done sitting up after a local anaesthetic spray, and usually causes only mild discomfort. It is performed on site, during the consultation.
Fluid in the middle ear is common in children and usually clears within three months. When it persists beyond that, affects hearing or speech, or comes with recurrent infections, ventilation tubes (grommets) are considered, sometimes with adenoid removal. The decision follows a hearing test and an examination by a pediatric ENT specialist.
Diagnosis combines an ENT examination, using endoscopy to map the obstruction sites in the nose, pharynx and base of the tongue, with a sleep study (lab or home) that counts breathing pauses. Treatment matches the findings: CPAP, a dental appliance, weight loss or surgery, coordinated with the center's pulmonology and sleep service.
