Dr. Periel Shapiro is a US-trained psychiatrist. He completed his medical degree and his residency in psychiatry at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey, and since 2023 he has practised privately: as physician and owner of a private practice in New Jersey and as a clinical psychiatrist at Comprehensive Psychiatric Services in California.

Dr. Shapiro's approach combines medication management (psychopharmacology) with psychotherapy: psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy. Alongside these he brings many years of practising and teaching mindfulness meditation, a field in which he has also conducted research and published.

During his training Dr. Shapiro served as psychiatry consultant at the Rutgers Promise Clinic, a free clinic for uninsured patients, where he coordinated mental health care. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the New Jersey Psychiatric Association.
