Real Change Starts with Proper Nutrition
At EliteMed, our clinical nutrition service offers much more than a "menu." We focus on habit changes, optimizing blood markers, and continuous guidance to achieve health goals. Our approach is science-based and adapted to modern lifestyles, emphasizing satiety, food enjoyment, and long-term results.
When to see a clinical dietitian
Not every change in diet needs professional support, but when there is a health marker that has to change, or when previous attempts did not last, working with a clinical dietitian saves time, frustration and mistakes. Situations in which it is worth booking a nutrition consultation:
- Weight loss that will not stabilise, or a repeating cycle of dieting, losing and regaining.
- Pre-diabetes or diabetes, with HbA1c values that your family doctor or endocrinologist has asked you to improve.
- High cholesterol or triglycerides, high blood pressure or fatty liver found on blood tests and ultrasound.
- Irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, constipation or food intolerance that disrupts your routine.
- Regular or competitive training that needs adjustment of protein, energy and meal timing, or preparation for a competition.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, menopause or polycystic ovary syndrome, where nutrition affects hormonal balance.
- A child with selective eating, excess weight or underweight, when parents want a calm, professional way forward.
- A vegetarian or vegan diet, and a wish to make sure it supplies iron, B12, calcium and protein.
Rapid unintended weight loss, difficulty swallowing, repeated vomiting or blood in the stool call for a medical evaluation by a physician before any nutrition plan, and severe weakness or dehydration needs the emergency room.
What the service at EliteMed includes
The first meeting with the clinical dietitian lasts long enough to understand the full picture: health status, current blood tests, medications and supplements, eating and sleep habits, the schedule at work and at home, and what has already been tried. On that basis a realistic working plan is built together, with measurable goals and follow-up dates. The approach is evidence-based and adapted to real life, with an emphasis on satiety, enjoyment of food and habit change that lasts, rather than a temporary menu.
What sets the service apart:
- A clinical dietitian, not a nutrition coach. A clinical dietitian holds an academic degree and hospital training, is registered with the Ministry of Health and is licensed to treat medical conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease and digestive disease.
- Part of a medical centre. When an endocrinologist, gastroenterologist or cardiologist is needed, the physicians are in the same centre, and the nutrition plan is integrated with the medical treatment.
- Blood test interpretation. Tests are read with a clinical eye, and supplements are recommended only when there is a real deficiency, not by default.
- No referral, no long wait. A nutrition appointment is usually available within days, and no referral from the family doctor is needed.
- Support between sessions. You can stay in touch and ask questions to make sure you remain on track between meetings.
- Insurance. A consultation with a clinical dietitian is reimbursable under a large share of private insurance policies (Harel, Phoenix, Menora and others), subject to policy terms. The centre provides an invoice and a summary.
Fast track for medical nutrition
Some situations should not wait for the next available slot: a new diagnosis of diabetes with high glucose values, a kidney disease that requires an immediate change in protein and potassium intake, a newly diagnosed celiac disease, or significant weight loss in an older adult. For these the centre offers a fast appointment within days, coordinated with the treating physician at the centre when one is involved, so the nutrition plan and the medication plan start together.
Preparing for your visit and what happens afterwards
Bring blood tests from the past six months, a list of medications and supplements and, if available, summaries from your treating physician. Keep a three-day food diary before the meeting, including drinks, snacks and times, and think about the goal that matters most to you: weight, a health marker, energy or calm around food. There is no need to start a diet before the meeting; on the contrary, come with your real routine so the plan can fit it. You leave with a written plan with clear goals, follow-up set according to your situation, and sometimes a request to complete tests. A change in energy and digestion is usually felt quickly, while a change in weight and blood markers takes a few weeks of consistency, so the first follow-up is usually set after two to four weeks. When needed, the dietitian consults the centre's physicians, and the summary is sent with your consent to your treating doctor.
