When to see a private endocrinologist
An endocrinologist treats the glands and hormones: the thyroid, the pancreas (diabetes), the adrenal and pituitary glands, the parathyroid glands, and also bone health and metabolism. Many of these conditions are first managed by a family doctor; a specialist is justified when an in-depth evaluation is needed or good control is not achieved. Reasons to book a consultation:
- A thyroid nodule found on ultrasound, or abnormal thyroid function on blood tests (high or low TSH).
