About Dr. Oren Ledder- Pediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

Dr Oren Ledder is the Department Head of Pediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, one of the largest pediatric endoscopy units in Israel.
Dr Ledder studied medicine in the University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia, and trained in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne and the Sydney Children’s Hospital. He trained in pediatric endoscopy under the late Prof Don Cameron, one of the pioneers of the field in Australia, and continued with advanced interventional training with Prof Mike Thomson in Sheffield, England, one of the world’s premier pediatric interventional endoscopists. He made Aliyah in 2012 and commenced as a senior pediatric gastroenterologist at Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
Dr Ledder was the first Israeli representative on the Endoscopy Special Interest Group of the European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), the largest pediatric gastroenterology society worldwide. The Endoscopy Special Interest Group is an elite group of approximately twenty endoscopy enthusiasts from throughout Europe and the Middle East. Dr Ledder currently serves as head of research in the Endoscopy Special Interest Group where he has initiated and coordinated a number of multicenter studies and position papers in the field of endoscopy, providing guidelines to pediatric gastroenterologists worldwide. Dr Ledder is also a regular endoscopy trainer at the Endoscopy Learning Zone at the ESPGHAN annual meeting, training both beginners and advanced endoscopists, as well as a trainer at the annual Endoscopy Summer School, held for training gastroenterologists and certified gastroenterologists seeking to improve their endoscopy skills.
Recently, Dr Ledder has joined the joint taskforce of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and ESPGHAN to provide up to date evidence-based guidelines on important aspects of pediatric endoscopy. Specifically, he is team leader on the topic of endoscopic balloon dilatations and in the core group formulating the guidelines on ingested foreign bodies.
Besides endoscopy, Dr Ledder is a highly regarded expert in Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, a senior physician in the Pediatric IBD clinic at Shaare Zedek, the largest Pediatric IBD service in Israel, and one of the largest and well respected throughout Europe and the Middle-East.
Dr Ledder has been an active member of the IBD interest group of ESPGHAN, initiating several important studies relating to new IBD therapies in children and endoscopic interventions in Crohn’s disease. Amongst other research activities, he has initiated and contributed to a large number of important studies, locally, nationally and internationally, in the field of IBD, eosinophilic esophagitis and pancreatitis.
